The "Weihnachts-Oratorium in Jazz" has enjoyed great success in recent years in the Herkulessaal, the Prinzregententheater and the Cuvilliés-Theater in Munich, in the Gewandhaus Leipzig and in St Thomas's Church there. The original composition by Johann Sebastian Bach in an arrangement by Stephan König regularly captivates audiences and sells out halls. Stephan König gives a new sound to well-known melodies with attentiveness, reverence and love for the great Bach, sometimes rhythmically arranged, sometimes turning harmonically into a jazz harmony, sometimes with original accompaniment, but always rousing and exciting. The work was commissioned by the Iffeldorfer KlangKunst Chor, which has performed it regularly ever since.
