Lunch break with Bach
20.05.2025
Once a week, people who work at the Gasteig or one of its institutes meet up during their lunch break to sing together. Because there is not only a lot of culture to see at Gasteig HP8. Culture is also lived there.

The Gasteig Choir is conducted by Ulrike Wanetschek, a trained opera singer and music therapist. The choir sings everything from Bach to the Beatles that Ulrike Wanetschek can think of and that the choir enjoys: "The main thing here is to sing with joy in a community of very different colleagues." Vocal training exercises and singing techniques are of course also part of the rehearsals. However, the focus is not on performance. "Exercising the vocal chords is good for both the body and the soul," emphasises Ulrike Wanetschek. "Singing during the lunch break literally energises us for the rest of the day." And there is hardly a better and more effective method of socialising than singing together. "In the Gasteig Choir, you become a team through Bach, so to speak."

The Gasteig HP8 in Sendling is one of the most exciting cultural centres in Europe. As the interim home of the actual Gasteig building in Haidhausen, which has to be renovated, it is an open space for everyone and a place where culture and education meet. The Gasteig family includes important cultural institutions such as the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich City Library, the Munich Adult Education Centre and the Munich University of Music and Theatre, all of which are present on site. And with the Isarphilharmonie, the Gasteig HP8 has the most modern concert hall in Munich. Gasteig HP8 hosts over a thousand events a year – from small workshops and readings, dance, cinema and festivals to large concerts.
