Today's St Matthew's Church was consecrated on 27 November 1955. The Bach cantata "Gott der Herr ist Sonne und Schild" was performed on the evening of the inauguration. 70 years later, the Münchner Motettenchor, soloists and the Residenzorchester München performs this cantata again in St Matthew's Church. The Residenzorchester München interprets the First Brandenburg Concerto. Organ works by Bach are played by LKMD Ulrich Knörr, Armin Becker and Martin Wiedenhofer on the Steinmeyer/Woehl organ, too.

Evang.-Luth. Kirchengemeinde St. Matthäus
St. Matthäus is the main Protestant-Lutheran and Episcopal church in Munich. The predecessor of the current church was built in 1833 on Sonnenstraße near Karlsplatz and fell victim to National Socialist urban planning in 1938. From 1953 to 1955, Gustav Gsaenger built today's church, which is one of the most important monuments of post-war modernism in Germany.
