Bach's "Matthäus-" and "Johannes-Passion" are popular works that fill churches and concert halls, especially during Lent. In a special way, however, they are also interpretations of the New Testament narrative of the suffering and death of Jesus, which Bach gave musical expression to for the people of his time.
On this evening, musician Tobias Dreher and theologian Dr Robert Mucha will look at excerpts from the work in two ways. In addition to examining the musical subtleties and the theological intentions of the work, they will also explore the question of why this work still fascinates and moves people today and where it is worth listening more closely and reflecting.
