Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata on Martin Luther's Advent hymn "Nun komm der Heiden Heiland", composed in Weimar in 1714, opens the new church year musically in the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche on 1 Advent.
Festive music in the style of a French overture frames the strictly fugal lines of the hymn in the opening chorus. The four solo movements, tenor recitative and aria, bass recitative and soprano aria and the concluding richly figured choral movement promise the coming of the Saviour in Advent joy.
The programme features the instrumental ensemble "Camerata Laim" with soloists, three vocal soloists and the Paul-Gerhardt-Choir Munich under the musical direction of Ilse Krüger.
