In the Balkans the word "Merak" stands for longing, bliss and joy of life. And it is precisely that energy the three young virtuosi directly vehicle in their playing. But "Merak" means more to the trio: it symbolizes their vision of combining innovation with tradition. Innovative are not only their lineup made of vibraphone, marimba, piano and over 40 percussion instruments and thus their absolutely unique and energizing sound world, but also the collective music making of the three alumni of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, the original compositions by Boris Knežević and his splendid arrangements of works by grand figures such as Franz Liszt and, of course, Johann Sebastian Bach. And their Bach is fresh, dynamic and joyous.
Cristina Lehaci (marimba & vibraphone), Boris Knežević (piano & composition), Moritz Knapp (marimba & percussion)
