Journey with Bach – "Because he cannot be stopped"

With the Bach by Bike Ensemble
With a work from each place of life, the concert leads through the stages of Johann Sebastian Bach's life.
16.11.2025, 14:00 – 15:00

Concert
St. Johannes München
Evang.-Luth. Kirchengemeinde St. Johannes

In this concert, one piece from each of the places where Johann Sebastian Bach lived will be performed. Bach by Bike was created with the idea of taking people on bicycles through the wonderful places where Bach lived, which are within cycling distance, and playing Bach's music where it was composed. Now Bach's places of life can also be experienced musically in Munich. The programme leads through the ever-advancing development of his work, just as Bach himself probably travelled most of his life on foot (at least in his younger years) and incorporated these journeys through the landscapes of Thuringia and Saxony into his music.
Bach's musical and geographical routes come to life again. Music and cultural history come together and illustrate how Bach's immortal music and exciting life can touch us today.

Bach by Bike Ensemble:
Anna-Luise Oppelt, alto
Mareike Neumann, violin
Johannes Janeck, organ

In the Bachfest Magazine there is a complete concert bike tour showing how you can discover four Bach concerts by bike on the same day.

Evang.-Luth. Kirchengemeinde St. Johannes

St. Johannes on Preysingplatz is also known as the "God's living room in Haidhausen". The doors of the church are wide open. Everyone is invited to linger, some light a candle and find words for a prayer. St John's is home to the entire spectrum of Christian spirituality. And last but not least, it gives musicians and choirs space to praise God and welcomes everyone.
