Bach in the spirit of ecumenism. Christian choirs and musicians of both Muslim and Jewish backgrounds unite to draw on the global source of strength and inspiration of his music and celebrate him in a joint concert. The Protestant Paul-Gerhart-Chor under the direction of Ilse Krüger will perform together with the Catholic Herz-Jesu-Chor. The choir's director Andreas Götz plays the large Woehl organ.
As a festive opening, the Sinfonia and choruses of the Council Election Cantata BWV 29 will be heard, with Slava Cernavca – clarinet, Jan Eschke – piano, Mochine Ramdan – vocals/gembri, Bastian Jütte – drums and Giorgi Makhoshvili - double bass providing the interreligious musical counterpoint with Bach klezmer for band and strings as well as an aria from Bach's "Matthäus-Passion" in Arabic style for band, strings and mochine. The concert concludes with the interfaith prayer for peace "Dona nobis pacem" from Bach's Mass in B minor.
Afterwards, everyone is invited to enjoy a drink and a chat.

The entire entrance front of the Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) becomes an image of welcome thanks to the house-high doors that open onto the church square. The entrance portal, 14 metre high glass wings, with deep blue characters made of cross nails, which tell passages from the Passion of St John, was designed by Alexander Beleschenko. It is considered the largest church portal in the world and is opened on public holidays and as part of the Open Gates programme.
