In 1739, Bach published a series of organ works as the third and, at 77 pages, most extensive part of the "Clavier-Übung". The prelude and fugue in E flat major form the framework, interspersed with 21 chorale arrangements. Albert Schweitzer also referred to the whole thing as an "organ mass", as the chorales used are not tied to specific times of the church year and were arranged roughly in the course of a church service, starting with Kyrie, Gloria and Credo.
The first part of the "Organ Mass" can be heard on 9 November 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Christuskirche in Munich.
