The greatest musician

Children's musical by and with Andreas Hantke
A musical insight into the life of Johann Sebastian Bach reveals the secret of the b-a-c-h.

Children & Youth, Concert & Opera
Erlöserkirche München-Schwabing

We know that Johann Sebastian Bach was a famous Baroque composer and musician and one of the greatest musicians of all time. But do we also know that he had twenty children from two marriages? Of these twenty children, half reached adulthood and some of his sons became famous musicians in their own right.

It is probably less well known that Bach had a lot to do with children: he gave individual and group lessons in instrumental playing, composition and music theory, for example at the Thomasschule in Leipzig. He also published collections of keyboard music for teaching, such as the music booklet for Anna Magdalena Bach or the Inventions. Bach enjoyed teaching and his pupils held him in high esteem. They probably also laughed a lot together, because his music can be very funny and humorous, and not just in the famous coffee cantata. And what's the story behind the notes b-a-c-h?

You can find out all this in the new musical "Der größte Musiker" by Andreas Hantke, which shows excerpts from the life of Johann Sebastian Bach, his large family and his work in an entertaining way. The Erlöserkirche singing school, under the direction of Antonia Schick-Spielkamp, performs the children's musical with the participation of a string quartet from the graduating class of the Pestalozzi High School and Andreas Hantke himself on the harpsichord.
