Opening of Advent

Liturgical celebration in the Frauenkirche
The new church year begins splendidly with the cantata BWV 36 to get the audience in the mood for the pre-Christmas season.
29.11.2025, 18:00 – 19:00

Church service, Concert
Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau
Münchner Dommusik

The first solemn vespers on the eve of the first Advent with the blessing of the large Advent wreath in the cathedral is a special moment at the beginning of the Advent season. All the Advent wreaths brought by the audience are also blessed and thus symbolically take home the wonderful music and its intention of looking forward to Christmas.

The melodies of "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern", "Komm, Du Heiland aller Welt" and "Nun komm der Heiden Heiland" are incorporated into the chorales of the Bach cantata "Schwingt freudig euch empor".
The acoustics in the cathedral are excellently supported by the available sound technology.
