In the winter of 1734/35, Johann Sebastian Bach created the six cantatas for six festive days of the Christmas season, which were combined to form the "Weihnachts-Oratorium". With the text of the Christmas story according to Luke, festive, jubilant choruses and fervent chorales convey the thoughts of the collective of Christians and intimate, meditative arias express the feelings of the individual believing soul. It is interesting to note that Bach had already composed much of the music for secular cantatas.
This seminar examines Bach's masterpiece, traces the composer's structures and techniques, shows how he interprets and incorporates the old pieces in new ways. Visitors can purchase discounted tickets for a performance of the" Weihnachts-Oratorium" on Saturday, 20.12.25 in the Herkulessaal of the Residenz with the Arcis-Vocalisten München and the original sound orchestra L' arpa festante accompanied by the lecturer, Prof. Thomas Gropper.
