Franz Halász, the very first professor for Guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, internationally hailed for his electrifying performances and numerous recordings, won, a.o., the Andrés Segovia Competition and the Latin Grammy Award. Also impressive is his versatility. After releasing an album with music by Spanish composer Federico Moreno Torroba, Halász has now recorded the complete works for solo guitar by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Brazil`s most important composer, who blended European classical music with popular traditions of his homeland, and whose devotion to J.S. Bach is also explicit in No. 3 of his "Cinq Préludes" W 419, a veritable "Bachianas Brasileiras" in miniature. And last year, Halász' third Bach-album with his own transciptions of the Sonatas & Partitas was released – yet another galvanizing recording of his on the label BIS/Naxos.
