Church service, Organ Marathon
Jesuitenkirche St. Michael

The late mass will be performed by St Michael's organist Peter Kofler with organ music by Johann Sebastian Bach. Peter Kofler's favourite project, the complete recording of all of Bach's organ works, reached its sonorous finale in 2024 with a total of 16 CDs. The complete cycle was recorded on the 4-manual Rieger organ in Munich's Jesuit Church of St Michael. Volume 1 was honoured with the "Editor's Choice" award by the British music magazine "Gramophone".

The late mass on Sundays and public holidays at 21:00 is a meditative evening service. Organ and cantor singing, once a month an additional instrument (OrgelPLUS), once the chamber choir and Cantio Nova, the choir for New Spiritual Song, characterise the late mass musically. After communion, a rite of incense and, after the blessing, a quiet night song form the conclusion. The late mass is an oasis of calm at the end of Sunday, a contemplative transition into the working week.

This event is part of the "Organ Marathon Bachfest Munich" series.
