Who would still know about Georg Christian Schemelli today if he had not published a "Musicalisches Gesang-Buch" with over 900 sacred songs? Only relatively few of the song texts, however, have notes, and here Johann Sebastian Bach made a significant contribution: he "composed the melodies ... partly completely newly composed, partly also ... improved in the basso continuo."
Ton Koopman is a harpsichordist, organist, conductor, researcher and globally recognised expert on early music and Johann Sebastian Bach's music in particular, and he confesses: "There is no day without Bach." Koopman and singer Klaus Mertens have been friends and musical partners for a long time, so a Bach concert by the two artists (this time together with the Artistic Director of the Iffeldorfer Meisterkonzerte, alto Andrea Fessmann) is always an exceptional experience.
